Coastal Conversations Seminar 3: Humpback Whales

February 20 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Free

The North Coast Ecology Centre Society (NCECS) is hosting monthly Coastal Conversations Seminars! We invite people to learn from knowledgeable locals about the North Coast’s unique ecosystems and culture. Our third Coastal Conversations Seminar will be all about Humpback Whales! Have you recently been hearing about Humpback Whales in Prince Rupert Harbour? Perhaps you thought to yourself, isn’t it a little late in the winter to see Humpback Whales? Well if you did, come learn all about humpback whales, their great migration, and what they are doing staying so late in BC waters with Karina Dracott from Ocean Wise. Ocean Wise (formerly the Vancouver Aquarium), has been researching local whale populations since 2014 and with help from local contributors, have documented over 400 individual humpback whales that call these waters home. Join us on February 20th at 7:30 to learn more about the history of Humpback Whales in BC, how to identify whales, the threats they face, and the role we can play as stewards of the ocean.
