SUMMARY:PRCAC Movie Night:
DESCRIPTION:We are making movie nights happen! \n\nHead to the Lester Centre on October 24th – doors at 6:30 pm and showing at 7 pm to see SO SURREAL: BEHIND THE MASKS (description below). We may have a change of scenery\, but movie night prevails! Tickets are available via the Lester Centre of the Arts website or at the door: https://www.lestercentre.ca/…/prince-rupert-arts…\n\nSO SURREAL: BEHIND THE MASKS is a feature documentary that traces the storied journey of Indigenous masks from the far reaches of Turtle Island (North America) into the hands of European Surrealists\, influencing the work and worldview of some of the most well-known modern artists and writers of all time including Max Ernst\, André Breton and Joan Miro – all while following the dramatic efforts to return a ceremonial mask that was brutally stolen from the Kwakwaka’wakw people on Canada’s northwest coast over a century ago. Part caper\, part road trip\, part spiritual journey\, SO SURREAL: BEHIND THE MASKS follows award-winning Cree filmmaker Neil Diamond (Reel Injun\, Red Fever) as he travels coast-to-coast and across the Atlantic and back\, gradually piecing together this groundbreaking global story of influence\, reconnection and hopeful restitution. Shot in Surrealistic style featuring interviews with renowned Indigenous artists along with eccentric art dealers and Surrealist scholars\, SO SURREAL: BEHIND THE MASKS is a compelling detective story that brings audiences into the complex world of repatriation\, while revealing the original meanings and importance of these ceremonial masks and how they came to impact one of the most iconic art movements of our time – a cultural practice that continues to resonate through the profound work of contemporary Indigenous artists today.\n\nHope to see you there!

SUMMARY:DECK at Lester Centre of the Arts
DESCRIPTION:DECK examines the fine line between perfectionism and obsession\, chaos and freedom and why apiece of 2×6 lumber isn’t really two inches by six inches.  Not even close.  DECK stars Cliv\, ameticulous single parent of two who has been forced to reassess his future after taking majorlosses in the recent recession.  He embraces a new start as a small town\, eco-conscious\, back-to-the-lander.  His attempts at self-sufficiency are hijacked by a bad house buy and he is forced to tryhis hand at home improvement.  Enter Corey\, the charismatic carpenter who takes Cliv under hiswing and offers to lend a hand. As Cliv is drawn into Corey’s world of free-wheeling free living\, Clivbegins to lose his grasp on reality and is consumed by suspicions of Corey’s true motives.   DECKis a darkly hilarious take on the modern milieu of a small town\, semi-urban environment. Please note:  This performance is not suitable for children. \nWARNING: POWER TOOLS\, PHYSICS\, PARTIAL NUDITY
