SUMMARY:The Complete Works of William Shakespeare {abridged}
DESCRIPTION:SHOW DETAILS\nLocation: Lester Centre of the Arts \nDoors open at 7:00pm\, show starts at 7:30pm – 9:30pm April 18th\, 19th\, and 20th. \n\n\n\n37 plays. \n3 actors. \n97 minutes. \nLet’s do this. \nThree local actors/actresses will weave their wicked way through all of Shakespeare’s comedies\, histories\, and tragedies in one wild ride that will leave you breathless and helpless with laughter. An irreverent\, fast-paced romp through the Bard’s plays\, “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” was London’s longest-running comedy. So\, when you think about it\, this play actually outlasted the runs for Shakespeare’s actual plays. How meta. How cool.

SUMMARY:Winter Wednesday Night Movies
DESCRIPTION:The movies take place at the Prince Rupert Cineplex at 7 p.m. with the doors opening at 6:30.  You do not buy a ticket through the Cineplex system\, rather you come to our PRCAC table outside whichever theatre our movie is scheduled to be shown in\,  with $12 in cash and if you can bring the correct change it would really help. \nMovie: Past Lives\nUSA\nCeline Song\nEnglish\, Korean\n106 minutes \nTwo deeply connected childhood friends\, Nora and Hae Sung\, fatefully reunite in New York City after being wrested apart 20 years ago\, in this decades-spanning romance from writer-director Celine Song. \nThe story begins in South Korea\, where 12-year-old Nora is preparing to emigrate with her family to Canada. But she is leaving someone dear behind: Hae Sung\, her closest friend. Twelve years later\, Nora (Greta Lee) has relocated from Toronto to New York to pursue her dreams of being a playwright. Eventually\, with the help of the internet\, Nora finds Hae Sung and rekindles their friendship over Skype. But with 6\,000 miles persistently separating them they lose their connection again\, as they once did as children. \nMore time passes\, and the two friends – now in their 30s – reunite in person in New York. By this time. Nora is married to a writer named Arthur (John Magaro) and Hae Sung is newly out of a long-term relationship. Nora shows Hae Sung the city as they elegantly dance around their past and the fated nature of their relationship. The ties between two people over the course of their lives is expressed beautifully and succinctly in a single Korean word: in-yeon. \nPast Lives is a delicately layered triptych that confronts destiny\, love\, and the choices that shape a life. Song’s graceful romance is about the acceptance of loss that becomes a defining part of adulthood. \n“It’s a beautiful\, transporting film but one made with both feet firmly on the ground.”

SUMMARY:Ballet Kelowna taqeš and Other Works
DESCRIPTION:SHOW DETAILS\nLocation: Lester Centre of the Arts \nDoors open at 7:00pm\, show starts at 7:30pm – 9:30pm \n\n\n\nProudly presented by the Lester Centre\, taqəš and Other Works features a stunning line-up of signature works from Ballet Kelowna’s contemporary ballet repertoire. With Cameron Fraser-Monroe’s powerful and compelling taqəš [tawKESH]\, Guillaume Côté’s mesmerizing Bolero\, and Fraser-Monroe’ satirical The Cowboy Act Suite\, this high-energy program promises to please a wide range of spectators. \nCameron Fraser-Monroe brings his classical ballet training\, knowledge of traditional Coast Salish\, Grass\, and Hoop Dance\, and experience as a contemporary dancer to taqəš [tawKESH]\, which means “to return something” in Ayajuthem\, the language belonging to the Homalco\, Klahoose\, K’omoks and Tla’amin Nations. Set to several songs by Polaris Prize-winning composer and singer Jeremy Dutcher\, taqəš follows the traditional story “Raven Returns the Water\,” centred around ῤoho (raven) and walθ (frog). \nNext\, National Ballet of Canada Choreographic Associate Guillaume Côté brings strength and fragility to a fascinating interpretation of the beloved Bolero by Maurice Ravel\, one of music’s most famous and identifiable melodies. A “riveting tour de force” (Dance Magazine)\, Bolero (2012) features breath-taking lifts and virtuosic choreography. \nRounding out the program\, audiences will be transported to the Wild West in Cameron Fraser-Monroe’s The Cowboy Act Suite\, a work that explores the dichotomy between “Cowboys and Indians” set to music by Mohawk singer/songwriter Tom Wilson.  While these caricatures have been portrayed on pages\, stages\, and in films\, they are often penned from a colonial perspective. Fraser-Monroe’s intuitive take on the swashbuckling strut of the Cowboy informs this intellectual unpacking of a one-sided lens and flips the script to ask\, what happens when an Indian directs the Cowboys through their history? \nBallet Kelowna gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the Canada Council for the Arts\, the BC Arts Council\, the Province of British Columbia\, the City of Kelowna\, the Government of Canada\, the Central Okanagan Foundation\, and the Thomas Alan Budd Foundation.
