SUMMARY:Drum Circle for Drum Run Adventure Tour
DESCRIPTION:Drum Run is coming to Prince Rupert on September 28th! Take part by joining the drum circle! \nThe Drum Run Adventure Tour\, presented by the Rhythm of Life Society and led by Founder and Executive Director Lyle Povah\, is a 1\,500 km run and 25-city drum circle tour throughout BC. Our mission is to fundraise for the Child Life Department at BC Children’s Hospital. In partnership with BC Children’s Hospital Foundation\, we seek to “Help Kids Shine.” \nAlong with a dedicated team of volunteers\, Lyle\, an international musician\, is leading the tour. Since 1991\, Lyle has brought a weekly drumming and music program to kids\, families and staff at BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver. He is also an endurance athlete who has run many marathons\, including the Boston and Great Wall of China marathons\, and recently completed the “Vancouver 100”\, a 100-kilometre ultramarathon. \nThe focus of Lyle’s decades-long career as a musician and Drum Circle Facilitator has been on promoting all aspects of health. A Community Drum Circle becomes the container within which people gather together to drum in community. An event like the Drum Run Adventure Tour seeks to bring health and well-being to the community. \nThe Drum Run Adventure Tour launches in Victoria on September 10 and makes its way throughout the province\, returning for a Closing Ceremony at BC Children’s Hospital on November 21. Throughout the tour\, Lyle will run 1\,500 km and stop in 25 communities to host drum circles. \nThe tour will cover four legs:\n1) Vancouver Island (to the West) – Victoria\, Duncan\, Nanaimo\, Qualicum Beach\, Courtenay\, Campbell River\n2) Highway of Tears (to the North) – Prince Rupert\, Terrace\, Hazelton\, Smithers\, Burns Lake\, Fraser Lake\, Vanderhoof\, Prince George\n3) Okanagan (to the East) – Kamloops\, Salmon Arm\, Vernon\, Kelowna\, Penticton\, Osoyoos\n4) Lower Mainland (to the South) – Hope\, Mission (TBC)\, Abbotsford\, Port Moody\, Vancouver \nDrumming and drum circles are fun\, family-friendly events that bring communities together and connect people. In addition\, research shows that drumming strengthens the immune system\, produces feelings of well-being\, and helps release emotional trauma. Drumming also induces deep relaxation\, lowers blood pressure\, and reduces stress. DESCRIPTION:Each year\, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. \nThe day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools\, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process. \nBoth the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day take place on September 30. \nOrange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual\, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools\, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”.  The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture\, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations. \nOn September 30\, we encourage all Canadians to wear orange to honour the thousands of Survivors of residential schools.

All proceeds go to MMC/ Shames Mountain and over the last three years\, sponsors and participants have helped us to raise over $100 000 for the mountain. Projects including the Shred Carpet (beginner conveyor lift) have benefitted from these fun events and last year we were able to buy new staff jackets! We will be hosting in Terrace and Prince Rupert and we want you to be a part of the action!

He quit his full time job\, sold his house and hit stages across North America doing what he loves best – drinking and making people laugh. It was a gamble that has paid off. DESCRIPTION:Join Scalawag as they tour in support of their sophomore album “Sehnsucht\,” released on June 1st!\nThe Vancouver based multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter Scalawag will be playing songs off the album with a full band\, and their usual quirky stage banter at the Wheelhouse starting at 8pm.\nA little about the album:\nSehnsucht is German for Nostalgia\, longing\, or yearning. More specifically\, a deep unsettled longing for something ‘else.’ An unapologetically melancholic indie-folk album born straight from the heartfelt reflections of Singer- Songwriter Teo Saefkow’s experiences with the concept of Sehnsucht\, and influenced by the folky- atmospheric confessional style of artists like Lucy Dacus and Gregory Alan Isakov. Scalawag’s sophomore album Sehnsucht deals with the multi- disciplinary artist’s attempt at finding meaning within relation. From the opening track’s examination of a doomed relationship\, to obsession with the thought of a loved one deciding never to return home in the album’s fourth track.\n\nA little about the show:\nShow starts at 8pm\n$10 at the door
